This Smoking Islay is a textbook example of what Blackadder means by Raw Cask : powerful, smoky, and completely unfiltered. A 10-year-old blended malt , crafted from Islay whiskies and bottled in October 2022 under the Spirit of Legend series. No frills, no softening—just character.
The nose is dominated by classic Islay smoke : wet ash, campfire, sea salt, and iodine, complemented by citrus zest and a light sweetness that provides balance. The alcohol content is high ( 60.5% ), but surprisingly well-integrated.
The palate is intense and straightforward . Thick peat smoke, soot, pepper, and saltiness form the core, followed by malty depth and a slightly oily texture. With a few drops of water, the whisky opens up further, revealing more layers: citrus, soft vanilla, and a mineral undertone. The finish is long, warm, and distinctly smoky.
As with all Blackadder Raw Cask bottlings, nothing has been filtered or colored. The visible cask residue at the bottom of the bottle is not a mistake, but a deliberate choice: pure whisky, straight from the cask .
