Bruges Whiskey Company – Ryggia ( 2019 )
Bruges Whiskey Company – Ryggia 2019 (Inaugural Release)
The Ryggia 2019 is the very first release from Bruges Whisky Company and immediately makes a statement. This Belgian single malt matured for only three years , but was bottled at an impressive 61.7% ABV , placing it firmly in the category of powerful, experimental whiskies .
The wine was matured in a complex mix of barrels : maple syrup, red wine, cognac, and muscatel casks . This creates a distinctive and unconventional profile. The nose is dominated by sweet syrup, dried fruit, vinous notes, and an alcoholic punch . On the palate, it is full-bodied, intense, and warm , with sticky sweetness, grapes, wood, spices, and a distinct spirit drive . The finish is long, powerful, and pronounced , but requires experience or a splash of water.
This isn't an easy whisky, nor is it everyone's cup of tea. Ryggia is intended for adventurous enthusiasts who appreciate young whiskies with extreme cask influences and high alcohol content . As an inaugural release, it also holds historical significance within the Belgian whisky world.
