Springbank 1989 54.6% (2002)
Springbank 12 Year Old – Wood Expressions – 1989/2002 – 54.6% – 700 ml
A rare, early Wood Expressions release from Springbank, distilled in 1989 and bottled in June 2002. This series is one of the distillery's most iconic experiments: pure cask influences, hefty alcohol levels, and that typical old-school Campbeltown character that is rarely produced these days.
This bottling matured entirely in Hogsheads & Barrels and is now rarely found in perfect condition (like your bottle) worldwide.
Flavor profile
Nose:
Soft peat smoke, citrus, vanilla, light salinity, wood, spices, green apple and subtle minerality.
Taste:
Fruity and powerful at the same time. Peach, pear, citrus oil, spices, malt, light smoke, and a hint of caramel. The 54.6% cask strength gives it structure, depth, and a wonderfully oily mouthfeel.
Aftertaste:
Long, warm and smoky-fruity, with notes of vanilla, oak and salty Campbeltown funk.
