Waterford Ballymorgan – Edition 1.1

Irish Single Malt – Single Farm Origin

The Waterford Ballymorgan Edition 1.1 is a textbook example of Waterford's philosophy: terroir first, marketing last . The barley for this bottling comes from Ballymorgan Farm , where soil structure and agricultural practices are consciously used to create character rather than uniformity.

Distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2020 after 4 years of maturation , at 50% ABV , without chill filtration. Maturation took place in a wide combination of first-fill bourbon, new American oak, French oak, and Vin Doux Naturel wine barrels , making this edition slightly rounder and spicier than some other Single Farm expressions.

Flavor profile
The nose opens fresh and malty with green apple, citrus, floral notes, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is powerful yet balanced: a grainy core, pear, citrus peel, soft wine influences, spicy woody notes, and a slightly drying structure. The finish is medium to long, dry, and mineral, with a focus on grain and oak rather than sweetness.

Positioning & value
The Ballymorgan 1.1 is n't an easy entry-level whisky , but a terroir-driven whisky for the curious drinker who truly wants to understand Waterford. Not an investment, but a richly expressive whisky that works exceptionally well in vertical tastings or alongside other Single Farm editions like Bannow Island or Ballykilcavan.
